ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Joan Reed Newman has told stories to children all of her adult life. With an audience of her own children, their friends, relatives, anyone who wanted to listen, there was always a story to tell; a book to read. She is a native Californian, living in Santa Cruz, CA, within walking distance to the upper small-craft harbor and the beautiful sea. She loves to share amazing facts about the sea, and sea animals. Many of her book ideas are related to the ocean and its inhabitants. When not writing, Joan likes to spend time with friends and family. She is interested in photography, and loves to photograph unusual sights. Like the dozens of jellyfish that piled up along the shore. Or the northern elephant seal, up so close it captured her heart. Joan loves to share her knowledge and interact with children. Whether it's first graders who love to touch squiggly seaweed and hear about sea critters or eighth graders who are interested in writing tips and techniques. She is inpired by their interest and enthusiasm. |
